Megan Hertel earned her Limited Licensed Professional Counselor degree from DePaul University in 2024. Megan specializes in working with children age 4 and older, as well as adults. She is fluent in Spanish and welcomes those who speak this language. Megan provides both in-person and virtual counseling services.
Megan believes that providing compassionate mental health services can be restorative and transformative for the client as well as their whole family system. She has experience working with folks with a variety of issues including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment issues, and behavioral and emotional issues. Megan also has a particular passion for working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
In her therapy practice, Megan aims to provide a compassionate, well-rounded approach that empowers clients and their caregivers, facilitates communication and healing, and fosters skills and self-love to weather life’s storms.
When meeting with younger clients, Megan often utilizes a mixture of child-centered and directive play therapy techniques, as well as a variety of creative interventions. With teens and adults, she often uses a mixture of Client-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as this seems to offer a balance between relational needs of the therapeutic alliance, and helpful interventions to implement healthy growth and change.
